Behind every winning sales team there is a great sales manager!

Sales Management

The sales strength of a company lies within the just one person; the sales manager.  Whereby some might be pronounced to state that the results of the sales department are the collective results of a team, I strongly believe that it is the sales manager who contributes 80% of the success of the sales team, whilst the remaining 20% can be attributed to the individual flairs and collective spirits. The sales manager is the key element within that department and thus has tremendous impact on the sales and productivity.

Do you believe that a bad or unproductive sales manager can have a negative effect on your company's sales?  We all know the answer to that question.  With the same line of reasoning, a good and effective sales manager will leave a positive impact on sales!

For us to understand the impact a sales manager has on a company's sales we have to understand the role of the sales manager and how this has a bearing on sales.  The central role of the sales manager means that the individual holding that post can leave an impression in areas like;

·        Staff moral – demotivation at the place of work resulting in poor performance, also possibly resulting in staff turnover,

·        High staff turnover – increasing the company's costs of training, decreasing sales as new staff cannot reach high levels of sales, apart from the loss of company assets being in the sales experiences lost,

·        Bad recruitment – roping inside the company people with the wrong sales skills or with little sales skills will have a bad effect on sales and the sales team,

·        Teamwork – breaking the team spirit with the sales staff is detrimental as teamwork generates problem solving ideas, leads and a positive work environment,

Are There Still Business Opportunities in Today’s Economic Climate?

Business opportunities for the individual are on the rise said a world famous economist renown for accurately predicting economic trends. The economy is booming and will create 10 million millionaires over the next ten years. This was a year ago. Given the current economic recession do you still think this is possible? Has this guru of economic predictions finally got it wrong? Could you perceive a scenario where these predictions could possibly happen in today's conditions?

I believe that this is still possible. In fact, I believe this guru is still right on target. It was also said that the wealth was transferring from the large corporations to the individual entrepreneur because the larger corporations were dismantling. The millions in wealth that would have been in the hands of a relatively few major corporations would end up in the hands of millions of individuals.

Could the current economic crisis be a precursor to this? Certainly the power base has shifted although there may be a few optimistic bankers who disagree.

With so much tax payer money used to prop them up, the power base had better shift to the individual. We should not have to go through so much pain only to see nothing change. Remember, the banks have not only had our money to bail them out - it was our money they lost in the first place.

Basically, this is the era for the little guy. The best business opportunity now is to set up your own home based business. After all this is what 85% of you have been telling the poles you want to do.

It was predicted that millions of individual entrepreneurs will share the wealth that was hitherto held by the large corporations. The contention is that the economy is in great shape and if you position yourself correctly, you will prosper.

Strategic Planning in Small Business, is There Such Thing?

“The vast majority of small business owners do not plan”, I think that we can regard this statement as a ruling. But why is it so? As far as my knowledge reach, the reason for this derives from two different aspects: First, the lack of time that every small business owner face, which exists mainly because of the centrality of the small business owner in the day-to-day management tasks that are crucial for the maintenance of the small business. Second, the skills, or lack of skills, to establish a profound strategic planning process that will evolve into strategic plan that will lay out the small business goals and objectives and the necessary resources needed to achieve those objectives. Such skills are not as common even when we are dealing with large business top managers, but contrary to small business owners large business top managers do have the access to professionals in the field of strategic planning and the necessary resources to hire them, and this is what makes the whole difference.

After saying all this, several questions needed to be answer: do all small business owners sentenced to lag behind their corporate colleagues regarding strategic planning? Is there something that the small business owner can do in order to narrow the gap? And if there is, what will be the benefits to the small business owner?
